LSI Joins LRI National Coalition in Washington DC for 2015 Advocacy Day
On March 22nd and 23rd, Charles Brummell and Mary Dollear of the Lupus Society of Illinois joined the Lupus Research Institute and the LRI's National Coalition representatives in Washington, DC to lobby legislators on behalf of lupus concerns.
On March 22nd, LRI hosted an Annual Meeting for the National Patient Coalition. Included on the day's agenda was: Initiatives to Engage Patients and Improve the Discovery, Development and Delivery of New Treatments and an Update on Lupus at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS).
Speakers included Representatives from the FDA, NIAMS, and pharmaceuticals including GlaxoSmithKlein, UCB, BIO, Mallinckrodt and BMS.
The National Coalition was educated on four asks for all representatives:
1. Speed up New Drug Approvals and Include the Patient in the Process
Illinois advocates were able to meet with representatives from the offices of both Senators Durbin and Kirk and aids from Representatives Davis, Kinzinger and Foster. In addition, a packet of information was left with Representative Roskam.
