Lupus Warrior Educates the Community about Lupus

The 14th Annual Western Suburbs Lupus Walk will feature lupus warrior Courtney Wulf as ambassador.

“My goal is to increase awareness about lupus, especially to newly diagnosed patients,” Courtney says. Her priority is newly diagnosed patients, “My hope is to provide newly diagnosed patients the information and support I didn’t receive.”

“We are thrilled Courtney has agreed to share her story to educate the public about lupus,” Lupus Society of Illinois (LSI) CEO Charles Brummell said. “The Lupus Society of Illinois’ is here to help the entire lupus community – the newly diagnosed to those who have lived with the disease for decades.”

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect virtually any system in the body. Ninety percent of people with lupus are women. Symptoms common to lupus patients are joint pain, fatigue, blood clots and miscarriages. Over half of the people with lupus will suffer from kidney related issues.

The LSI hosts the Western Suburbs Illinois Lupus Walk to educate the public about lupus and to raise funds to support patient based programs and services – like educational events, support groups and a lupus navigator.

Courtney was introduced to the LSI as a runner – she participated in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as a Lupus Charity Runner for 2 years. As her lupus progressed, she stopped running and starting walking to support lupus and the LSI.

There’s no stopping Courtney Wulf, whose team “Wulf Pack Lupus Attack” will be present on Walk Day to cheer her on as she welcomes, educates and motivates the walkers.

“I want the world to know what lupus is like day to day,” Courtney says. “And I want new patients to know there’s support for them.”

Join Courtney and hundreds of others in the lupus community at the 2019 Western Suburbs Illinois Lupus Walk on Saturday, August 10, 2019.

The Lupus Walk will be full of fun activities, such as a DJ and entertainment, a raffle and a team t-shirt contest. There will be a festival area with a stage and tents for LSI sales, kids’ activities, top teams and sponsors. Light refreshments will be served.

The Lupus Society of Illinois (LSI), formed in 1973, is the Midwest’s leading non-profit health organization dedicated to finding the causes and cure for lupus.

LSI’s mission is to promote lupus awareness and complement the work of health care professionals by providing personalized resources for the lupus community while supporting research.

With the help of informed volunteers, lupus medical experts, and committed and caring supporters, we:
• support research and conduct education programs so everyone affected by lupus can have an improved quality of life;
• provide information to ensure people with lupus and their families get answers and health professionals know about new means to diagnose and manage the disease; and,
• conduct activities to increase awareness of lupus, rally public support for those who are affected by lupus, and advocate on their behalf.

About Lupus:
Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease that ravages different parts of the body. It is difficult to diagnose, hard to live with, and a challenge to treat.
