Lupus Awareness Month
Lupus Awareness Month is the time of year when the lupus community takes time to educate their families, workplaces and neighborhoods about lupus. Education can be as modest as sending an email to your friends and family about lupus to organizing a Lupus Awareness Day at your office. We encourage you to get creative as you raise awareness about this often misunderstood disease.

Go Purple for Lupus by using purple light bulbs or stringing purple lights around your home or work place. Whenever someone asks about the color change, talk about lupus. If lights don’t work, decorate with anything purple (a purple ribbon, purple balloons, etc) that might invite anyone who sees it to ask about it.
Pass a Lupus Awareness Month Proclamation in your local government!
Change your Facebook status to “LUPUS AWARENESS!”
Hang a Lupus Awareness poster in your front window or at your workstation!
Hand out Lupus Awareness Month stickers to everyone you see!
Wear your purple wristband every day in May!
Share a lupus fact of the day on Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter)
Take an “I fight for lupus because” selfie!

Lupus Spoons Support Group Hosts Lupus Awareness Walk to Celebrate Lupus Awareness Month
Support Group Leader and lupus warrior Mari Gonzalez hosted her annual walk to celebrate World Lupus Day on May 10th. Dozens showed up to support lupus awareness and education.

Associate Board Outing with the Chicago Fire
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the LSI Associate Board celebrated Lupus Awareness Month at the Chicago Fire soccer match!
41 lupus warriors, family members and friends came together to cheer on the Chicago Fire to victory!

PWCC Not-for-Profit Fair
Thank you, Olive Wassen, for nominating LSI for the Professional Women’s Club of Chicago (PWCC) non-for-profit fair. Olive is on the LSI Associate Board and a walk committee member. Lisa and Olive attended on May 8th along with 19 other organizations. During this event, they raised lupus awareness and share LSI mission while networking with other organizations and PWCC members.
Rich Township High School Key Club hosted Lupus Awareness Week Fundraiser!
Lupus volunteers set up a table in the school cafeteria spreading lupus awareness and answering questions. The Key Club students are sold candy bars for $1 with hidden prizes. This took place May 5th and 6th during lunch times.
